Our Story

Building the Future of Construction

Since 1994, we've been developing robotics and AI systems for the real world. Now we're bringing that expertise to autonomous construction.

Meet the Founder

Dr. Ryoji Otsu

Founder & CEO

After experiencing the devastation of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in 1995, which claimed over 6,000 lives and destroyed his hometown, Dr. Otsu made it his mission to create technology that protects people in times of crisis. Just one week after the disaster, he founded his first robotics venture focused on developing unmanned construction systems for hazardous environments.

Over the years, Dr. Otsu has led groundbreaking innovations in AI, robotics, and automated systems for critical infrastructure including energy, transportation, and heavy industry. He has worked closely with Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism to advance unmanned construction and disaster response capabilities.

For his contributions, he has been appointed to government technology committees and serves as an Invited Researcher at Waseda University. Dr. Otsu holds a PhD in Medical Sciences from Osaka University.

30+ Years of Robotics Excellence

CHINOU Robotics (formerly Chinougijutsu Co., Ltd.) was founded in 1995 in Osaka, Japan—just one week after the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake. What started as a mission to save lives in crisis has evolved into a leader in autonomous construction technology.

Our technology powers firefighting robots deployed by fire departments across 10 Japanese prefectures, operates excavators autonomously at Japan's largest national dam, and is now expanding to the US market.
